Mini Float Building at Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World
Kick off the experience with a guided tour for the
group. This takes about one hour and will give the
group more insight about the activity to follow. The
tour includes a 12 minute movie presentation, an opportunity
to try on costumes, King Cake and coffee, Mardi Gras
World beads and a tour of the Prop Shop to see the
artists creating, painting, constructing and sculpting.
The group will also view the most awesome floats ever
built for carnival - the Orpheus 140 foot, triple-tandem
sea monster "Leviathan" and the 240 foot
quintuple-tandem "Captain Eddie's S.S. Endymion"
with tens of thousands of fiber optic lights.
The group will be sub-divided into groups of 8-10.
Prior to the event a general theme should be picked,
ie. African Wildlife, Countries of the World, Children's
Story Books, etc. Each team will then sketch the 'vision'
of their float on paper. Then they begin construction.
Each group is furnished with the following: gloves,
aprons, paints, brushes, styrofoam, fringe and all
tools necessary to complete the task.
There will be two artists on hand for verbal assistance
and they will also be available to judge the floats
at the end. This activity takes about two hours and
includes soft drinks. For more information, call (504)
361-7821 or (800) 362-8213.
